IL DISEGNO E L'ARTISTA
Viterbo (Italy) – 2018
An exhibition created to celebrate the painter, sculptor and art history teacher Publio Muratore, personality of the cultural and academic world of Viterbo, in the centenary of his birth; the basic idea for this exhibition is to portray Muratore for the first time through his drawings: by following the immediate nature of his actions, to come into contact with the artist’s most intimate universe.
The exhibition is held in the ex-slaughterhouse in Viterbo, which has been transformed into an exhibition space. In relation to the intimate approach chosen for this exhibition, the space is shaped by the articulation of wooden panels painted in red – the same one present in his first studio – which guides the visitor in a bewitching atmosphere where the drawings gently emerge.
The exhibition is divided into five sections corresponding to groups of independent but interrelated drawings: simple sketches, studies for scenography, frescoes or paintings. The last section shows a selection of oil paintings – reminding us of the artist’s most famous production – with the original drawing next to it.
The layout is characterised by the permeable alternation between the sections and two living spaces, the Studio (reconstitution of his studio) and the Viaggio (space dedicated to his travels), which are scenographies that constitute moments of deepening and pause in the visit itinerary.
This exhibition is completed by a space where a video containing interview pieces and images of the artist’s life is shown in a loop.
The exhibition catalogue has been designed by following the division into sections of the arrangement, with the aim of keeping the exhibition’s message alive over time.
